The Shepherd Program
The Shepherd Program is a wonderful ministry that provides people in the Wakefield/Brookfield area with rides to medical appointments when they, because of a medical or physical condition, are unable to drive themselves and have no other means of transportation.
The First Congregational Church of Wakefield, United Church of Christ, sponsors this program, but our drivers come from other churches, as well as our own, and from the community at large.
When people need a ride to a medical appointment, they call the church office at 522-3189 and leave a message on the church answering machine. One of our administrators returns the call and confirms the ride.
There is no charge for this service, and the drivers do not accept gas money or gratuities. However, donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Wakefield, United Church of Christ, and earmarked for the Shepherd Program. In that way, we are able to periodically supply our drivers with gas cards.
For information, or to see if you qualify for the program as either a driver or a rider, please call the church office at 522-3189.
